How much longer will President Biden remain a candidate for re-election before he reenacts Lyndon Johnson’s March 1968 demural and announces he will not accept the Democratic nomination for President?
People have questioned why his debate with Trump was scheduled so early in the election cycle. That’s a no-brainer: it was scheduled by the forces inside his own party who wanted to be rid of him and install Kamala Harris as the candidate to beat The Donald.
In this scenario, the only way Harris can be made to drop out and defer to Gavin Newsom or Gretchen Whitmer is by means of a massive bribe, or an equally massive threat to her life, or that of her loved ones.
Short of a Cryptocracy gamble of those proportions and she will be the nominee. The Democratic Party has sold its soul to identity politics. Unless she cooperates, they will not dare to dump Kamala because it would risk a grassroots revolt and black boycott that would likely cost them the election. I surmise that the Cryptocracy has deduced that Harris has a better chance than Biden of helping to win Congress for the Democrats, even if she loses the presidency to Trump. At present with Biden it’s a lose-lose situation.
Almost as though by pre-arrangement, the corporate media spin on Biden’s debate performance was immediately and drastically negative.
America being a relatively young nation the contents of Biden’s statements and answers, which he had taken the trouble to memorize in detail, signified zilch because they were delivered by a transparently elderly senior citizen of limited physical capacity.
Much has been made by the media of “Trump’s lies” during the debate (as if Biden didn’t prevaricate). This “liar liar” approach was a cover for Trump’s largely ignored, vague rhetorical parries that lacked even the name of the perpetrators (Antifa) of the riots to which he nebulously referred, which resulted in no January 6-type of mass prosecution and incarceration. It was an important retort. Trump vitiated it with his foggy recall.
He did the same with his account of abortion infanticide in the ninth month of gestation, searching for the name of the Virginia governor who signed off on it and failing to recall it (Gov. Ralph Northam). There were other hazy generalizations demonstrating his megalomania and lack of preparation.
The crucial difference was that Trump projected the youth and vigor of a charging bull while Biden’s age and frailty couldn’t have been more obvious. Marshal McLuhan’s old saw about the medium being the message was reborn on June 27. It didn’t matter how many policy issues Biden invoked in detail. The medium of his message was his feeble demeanor. Youth-obsessed America rejected him on that basis, not mainly on the content of his statements.
