“Trust science.” — Dr. Anthony Fauci
The New York Times is accustomed to terming the people whose views the paper’s owners favor as, “experts in their field of study.” The Times presumes that we know our place as “moral and ethical” citizens and that we will submit our own findings and research to the veto of the newspaper’s ‘experts.’ If they overrule us our only reaction is supposed to be, “Yassuh, boss!”
The conceit behind the attempt to foist an Expertocracy on the American people is as virulent as ever, but its claims on our fealty have been markedly weakened as social media’s investigative journalism has begun to replace the legacy media as the people’s go-to source for news and analysis. Dr. Fauci is a figure of reverence in a print medium whose aging audience continues to wither. He is largely detested on social media whose readers and auditors number in the hundreds of millions.
In Fauci-ism the bellicose perorations emitted by enthusiasts for his particular epistemology are honored as “science” by the Associated Press, NPR, NBC News and a legion of other lockstep automatons. Actually, what we are confronting is scientism.
Science is derived from scientia, “knowledge.” Where knowledge which offends the managerial Expertocracy is restricted or otherwise devalued, one is in the presence of scientism, a dogma which certainly deserves no “trust.”
To the epigram, “Trust Science” this writer posits a revival of the slogan of the ‘60s radicals, “Question Authority.”
Yet many of those erstwhile radicals have served these past few decades as elderly acolytes of Dr. Fauci. They have become what they opposed. Plus ça change, plus c'est la même chose.
This writing is dedicated to three physicians and one PhD. medical researcher, all of whom it has been my privilege to have known personally. I respect authentic healers and independent thinkers like these exemplars.
Our enemy is not medicine. Our adversary is priestcraft and the contrived yardstick by which large swaths of reality are excluded.
I do not intend to make an icon out of Mr. Kennedy. He is an anti-Palestinian bigot. His position on America’s abortion plague is anemic at best and subject to the winds of political change.
He would be a distant second as my choice for Secretary of Health and Human Services if he were competing with a nominee who believed and acted upon the bedrock truth that the life of every one of God’s image-bearing creatures, from Palestine to the womb, is precious.
We are however, to paraphrase Wordsworth, not in utopia but in the real world, the place where we find what is needed, or not at all. What is needed is a bulwark against Communist mask and vaccine mandates; school, church and business closures; and the toxic depredations of the pharmaceutical leviathan. On those particular points I harbor a realistic hope that Robert F. Kennedy Jr. will do the right thing.
Let us now sally forth to autopsy the Expertocracy.
