John Kerry’s ruling class credentials are impeccable. He is a member of of the secret society of Skull and Bones, a former U.S. Senator, the 2004 nominee for President of the United States of the Democratic Party, former Secretary of State under Barack Obama, and most recently, President Biden’s Special Envoy for Climate.
In September Mr. Kerry was a keynote speaker at the World Economic Forum (WEF) in New York. According to the group’s press release, “Over 1,400 business leaders, policymakers, leaders from international and civil society organizations, innovators, and social entrepreneurs participated in discussions on topics such as the future of growth, the energy transition, and nature protection. The meetings (were) held during the 79th session of the United Nations General Assembly…”
Kerry’s speech was not confidential. It was delivered in the glare of the kind of planetary publicity which, as its name suggests, the World Economic Forum invites and generates. It was intended to make headlines. Mr. Kerry said:
“The dislike of and anguish over social media is just growing and growing. It is part of our problem, particularly in democracies, in terms of building consensus around any issue. It's really hard to govern today. You can't—the referees we used to have to determine what is a fact and what isn't a fact have kind of been eviscerated, to a certain degree. And people go and self-select where they go for their news, for their information. And then you get into a vicious cycle.”
These are the words of a Saturday morning cartoon villain. They are so extreme in their undisguised contempt for the people’s right to think for themselves that if Sun King Louis XIV were alive today he would snarl the same scorn at the peasants.
Let’s unpack Kerry’s words. The “dislike of and anguish over social media” which he references is not emanating from We the People, who are eager to cross Mr. Kerry’s redlines and dare to “self-select where we go for our news.”
The anguish over this thought crime is felt by the grandees of Martha’s Vineyard, Beverly Hills and Manhattan’s Upper East Side. They are increasingly finding it difficult to rule over us (“really hard to govern”), when cyberspace is packed with hundreds of millions of people accessing forbidden information and dissenting viewpoints.
The old ruling class model of pushing absurd delusions like taxing and spending for prosperity, and open borders for enhancing American civilization, are “eviscerated” because they have lost the unanimity of belief which only a monopoly on news can maintain. The only reason anyone believed these myths is that almost everyone did.
Social media has overthrown the gatekeepers (“the referees we used to have to determine what is a fact and what isn't a fact…”).
Exactly, Mr. Kerry. The overthrow was the purpose of the Internet, as declared in 1996 by one of its pioneers, John Perry Barlow, in “A Declaration of the Independence of Cyberspace”:
Mr. Barlow wrote:
“Governments of the Industrial World, you weary giants of flesh and steel, I come from Cyberspace, the new home of Mind. On behalf of the future, I ask you of the past to leave us alone. You are not welcome among us. You have no sovereignty where we gather.We have no elected government, nor are we likely to have one, so I address you with no greater authority than that with which liberty itself always speaks. I declare the global social space we are building to be naturally independent of the tyrannies you seek to impose on us. You have no moral right to rule us…
“We are creating a world that all may enter without privilege or prejudice accorded by race, economic power, military force, or station of birth. We are creating a world where anyone, anywhere may express his or her beliefs, no matter how singular, without fear of being coerced into silence or conformity…
“Your increasingly obsolete information industries would perpetuate themselves by proposing laws, in America and elsewhere, that claim to own speech itself throughout the world…These increasingly hostile and colonial measures place us in the same position as those previous lovers of freedom and self-determination who had to reject the authorities…”
Elsewhere Barlow declared, “We are now, as a global group, going into a period where the old editorial system, the old way of stomping down consciousness to a bearable aperture is about to get blasted.”
John Kerry is acutely aware of these online blasts. They are doing damage to his world. It’s why he told the World Economic Forum, “…it is really hard, much harder to build consensus today than at any time in the 40-50 years I've been involved in this.”
“Build consensus” is cosmetic doublespeak for Big Brother imposing conformity. The fact that our conformity to their imbecility is at its low point is good news for humanity.
As Barlow declared and Kerry acknowledges, social media is “blasting” the “editorial system” of the Cryptocracy’s consensus reality.
In the name of democracy (“part of our problem in democracies”), Mr. Kerry seeks to deprive us of democratic choices. What could be more Fascist or Communist? In the Constitutional Republic envisioned by the Founders of our nation, the right to govern is derived from the consent of the governed. Kerry seeks to perpetuate the process of manufacturing consent.
Informed consent depends on the advancement of knowledge and the free exchange of ideas and research. In the Declaration of Independence Jefferson didn’t argue from his authority. This ego-negation can be traced to 1620 and the Mayflower Compact, according to which all were sovereign—equal in the eyes of the law. No hierarchy on earth was recognized as having the right to lord it over others without their agreement.
Jefferson in making his case against the monarch in England presented his version of facts contrary to the official pronouncements of the Crown: “The history of the present King of Great Britain is a history of repeated injuries and usurpations, all having in direct object the establishment of an absolute tyranny over these states. To prove this, let facts be submitted to a candid world.”
I would argue that the World Economic Forum and the Biden administration’s factotum Kerry seek to suppress those facts and absolutely tyrannize We the People.
