There’s a book wittily titled “Letters from the Editor” containing the correspondence of high school graduate Harold Ross, who hailed from frontier Colorado and who became the indomitable, perfectionist editor of the highbrow New Yorker in that magazine’s heyday. I am not in the same class of wordsmithing as Mr. Ross, all the same, I’m borrowing the title for our purposes. (James Thurber’s The Years with Ross is also of interest).
I have been blessed with challenging and informative comments on yesterday’s column (Was Trump’s Would-be Assassin a Government Agent?), and since, in at least one instance, my epistolary rejoinder is somewhat extensive, I thought it worthwhile to print it in this column, lest it languish in the comments section in relative obscurity.
