The attack by Hamas is a disaster for Palestinians and Jews
Hamas attacks the Israeli occupation while more than a million Gaza civilians are hostage to the suicidal actions of Hamas
The attack by Hamas today is a disaster for Palestinians and Jews. It plays into the hands of the racist Israeli leadership and will result in the deaths of hundreds or even thousands of Palestinian civilians—we mourn the deaths of Israeli civilians too. The Israelis have the 5th most powerful military in the world. Hamas has undertaken a suicide mission which will result in the heavily oppressed people of Gaza suffering even more misery and death, and Gaza bombed to rubble. Palestinian lives are not highly valued in Britain, the European Union, Canada or the US.
There are peaceful means for achieving Justice for Palestine, as Gandhi did in British-occupied India. Norman Finkelstein’s brilliant book on Gandhi and Palestine should be printed in Arabic and massively disseminated in occupied Palestine. Meanwhile, let us pray for peace.
In response to the preceding statement published on X (Twitter), I received the following criticism from @KavkazHussaini
“Stay in your lane. Don't dictate occupied Palestine how they can/can't defend themselves. You understand exactly how Zionist J*ws think, yet Palestinians should lay down their arms (what the Zionists actually want)?
“Stick to exposing the Talmud, not condemning resistance.”
To Kavkaz Hussaini:
I condemn suicide. I condemn Hamas attacking the Israeli occupation while more than a million Gaza civilians are hostage to the suicidal actions of Hamas. Moreover, to terrorize Israeli civilians is to become like your enemy.
What will be gained by the attack by Hamas? The civilian districts of Gaza will be carpet-bombed to rubble by the Israeli military. Do you want to win, or make a self-immolating gesture? To win you study how Gandhi overcame the powerful British occupation of India. You study Norman Finkelstein's book, What Gandhi Says.
Dr. Finkelstein’s brief book surprised me with its insights. I thought I knew Gandhi, but the author shows that he was not a pacifist. Gandhi chose non-violence because that was the only means by which British imperialism could be driven out of India. Gandhi's path is the only way to victory for Palestinians seeking to win a homeland.
Finkelstein demonstrates that Gandhi's non-violence was in many respects more brutally courageous than the combat of a guerrilla army. Gandhi expected his followers to walk into the guns of the enemy with complete courage and resolve, fully expecting to die. Few soldiers face those kinds of odds on a daily, weekly and monthly basis as did Gandhi’s followers.
Furthermore, Norman G. Finkelstein is passionately committed to mercy and justice for the Palestinian people, and it’s my prayer that the Palestinian masses will heed this call to the only path to victory open to them at present, in their battle with the massive state power of the Israelis: the tactics of Gandhi.
As noted, this book is brief, but the scholarship behind it is not shallow. Finkelstein read exhaustively in Gandhi’s papers, including portions seldom if ever quoted. This text is yet another significant contribution to human knowledge by a scholar who has suffered ritual defamation and loss of employment, and his teaching career itself, for his beliefs.
