The Dark Enlightenment
A Professor's View of the Fuentes Phenomenon and Its Occult Backers

On Friday November 15 we published a study, “Preposterous Propaganda: Nick Fuentes and the Rehabilitation of Hitler — Meme-Driven Neuro-Engineering Substitutes for Rational Thought.”
On November 17 we received the following analysis from a subscriber who is a professor at a midwestern college. Over the years he has occasionally shared research with this writer.
My remarks follow his.
Dear Michael,
I just read your recent substack post -- thank you. Another excellent piece. I want to mention a few things your column brought to mind.
Nick Fuentes and Gen Z:
While it’s purely anecdotal, the “young conservatives” that I encounter in the college classroom typically see Fuentes as someone who is willing to call out hypocrisy and lies with regard to Trump, particularly over the Epstein files.
While it’s true they are critical of American support of Israel, I haven’t encountered anyone that supports Fuentes’ comments about Hitler. In fact, the young men that I’ve spoken with— they’re all young men; conservative women at the college level are more circumspect when it comes to voicing their views — reject the “black pill” view that Fuentes is associated with when it comes to conservatism’s way forward.
While it’s true that Fuentes has insinuated himself into the “conservative mix” on campuses among Gen Zers, he’s often touted for what many take to be his willingness to say things others are afraid to voice, mostly with respect to “woke-ism” and matters of race and gender.
Unfortunately, most Gen Zers do not read and have very little, if any, knowledge and awareness of history. Most of my students do not know who Solzhenitsyn is and are unaware of what happened in the Soviet Union and its gulags. They may know the name “Hitler” but they often confuse WWI and WWII — I kid you not.
This has made me wonder who is ultimately behind Fuentes. I thought it was interesting that Tucker, before he sat down with Fuentes, had dismissed him on his show as a “gay kid living in the basement of his parents.” There are videos out there that can be found of a younger Fuentes out socially with other young men that are hard to deny are “dates.”
During the interview, Tucker apologized for what he had said earlier and provided Fuentes with the opportunity to affirm his being “interested in girls,” though he admitted he (Fuentes) didn’t have a girlfriend at the time. I don’t really care if he’s “gay” or “straight.”
However, I found it interesting that this rumor has overshadowed him for sometime, especially with regard to the videos that are still out there that seem to confirm said rumors and, that Tucker provided an opportunity for the record to be set “straight.”
Nick, in turn, apologized for suggesting that Tucker had intelligence connections and a whiff of the CIA about him due to his father’s work.
I have no evidence one way or the other but it raised the possibility in my mind that something was being stage-managed for us with respect to what the Cryptocracy wants us to “perceive” in this Tucker Carlson meeting with Fuentes and rumors of Tucker’s intelligence connections and Fuentes’ being gay.
The “Dark Enlightenment”
The ideology implicit in Fuentes’ views, perhaps made “respectable” or at least palpable with the Tucker interview, dovetails nicely with another cultural movement that seems to be taking shape along the margins of the Group Mind — the “Dark Enlightenment.”
I’m guessing you’re familiar with Nick Land and his mentor of sorts, Curtis Yarvin? A heavy teaching load has prevented me from finishing my book on the “tech-gnostic alchemical age of AI,” so I haven’t had a chance to do the research I want to but, I always suspected there was an occult influence in Silicon Valley — I just couldn’t prove it.
I know the Esalen Institute shaped the earlier mindset of tech hippies; I know SRI’s “The Changing Images of Man” document, prepared for the Kettering Foundation in the early 70s, was popular as well. Burning Man, attended by many in the tech world, has a number of occult elements, too.
When I learned recently that Nick Land and Yarvin are popular with the Silicon Valley tech world, I had my smoking gun: Mr. Land claims to be possessed by “entities.” He practices Aleister Crowley and John Dee-like techniques for communicating with those entities, and promotes the idea of a “dark Enlightenment” that sounds like Ayn Rand meets Blavatsky meets tech totalitarianism.
This occult-tinged philosophy has the support of powerful people like Peter Thiel and, one would presume, JD Vance. Nick Fuentes may infect disaffected Gen Zers but Nick Land’s influence seems more occluded and hidden. I wonder why.
Kirk Assassination: I recently came across an interesting synchronicity regarding the Kirk murder. After being encouraged by a friend to listen to Candace Owens’ podcast on some of the oddities and inconsistencies surrounding the Kirk shooting, I watched a video on her YouTube channel where she addresses questions regarding planes that were flying in the area at the time of the murder. On the day of the shooting, Owens indicated a military flight took off from El Paso (the passage way), headed to Kalispell (!). During the flight, it dipped down and flew a few loops over the area where Kirk was shot and then proceeded to Kalispell. —End quote.
Dear Professor T.
re: “The Dark Enlightenment”
Nick Land, founder of the Cybernetic Culture Research Unit at Warwick University continues the science fiction inevitabilism I discerned decades ago, whereby one script describing the future among hundreds of competing scenarios and visions, is selected for promotion by corporate media as ineluctable and becomes so, predicated exclusively on its acceptance and belief by masses of people.
Architecturally this manifests as the brutalist school in extremis. Our future, we are instructed to believe, will be made up of structures of harshly reductionist geometric severity. No Greek Parthenon, Roman Pantheon, Catholic gothic or Shaker simplicity will be present, given that all of those building styles are of a design and scale which leads to the ennoblement of what it means to be human.
In the science fiction future of the Dark Enlightenment humans are an appendage of dead matter (the machine) and useful to the extent that they serve “inevitable” Evolution — our brains melded with computers.
Terence McKenna became extremely yin and unbalanced after abusing psychedelics through his ingestion of massive amounts over many years. In his decayed utopian vision he believed the future will witness nude pagans inhabiting the woods tethered to digital eye glasses enhancing vision and perception.
Primeval people, whether Apaches or Vikings, possessed augmented vision and perception through a lifelong practice of natural disciplines along with occasional consumption of plant medicine. They mainly built upon the organic potential of the body and mind their Creator bequeathed to them; no need to pay Microsoft or Apple for the privilege.
The movement in Nick Land’s name embraces hyperstition, i.e. “self-fulfilling prophetic fiction.” This is a magical operation. The prophecy becomes credible and real when, similar to the meme engineering which we touched upon last time, enough people believe it — not on its merits, or alignment with natural or divine law.
If one strips the occult of its trappings one faces a self-replicating belief machine directed by communications it imagines it is having with “entities” invoked by John Dee, Aleister Crowley and other “dark” magi.
Curtis Yarvin writes: “…none of us could accept the darkest aspect of that truth. We all had the idea that we could stand up and speak the truth and, if it was true enough, it would flash around the world like lightning. Nothing could prevail against the truth…this fantasy itself was part of the lie…
This truth is only available to the most advanced atheists and the most advanced Christians. The advanced atheist has purged himself of all traces of folk religion, and understands the world as it is—an infinitely cold universe of protons and electrons, whose fundamental rules are a few lines of mathematics with no concept of humanity. Our galaxy is not even special, let alone our planet. To the advanced Christian, God’s will is just as cold and his justice is just as inexorable, and evil is sent to punish evil. Maistre read the French Revolution as God’s punishment of the decadent liberals who brought it about, and the weak conservatives who failed in their duty to oppose it. Was he wrong? I love my protons and electrons, but I can’t see how he was wrong.”
Yarvin’s patter is intended to wow what I presume is his mostly half-educated audience. He writes with authority. In their ignorance they will believe him.
Witness the mockery: Yarvin’s archetypal Christian is the Freemasonic double agent Joseph Maistre. It was Maistre’s covert mission to adopt the persona of an ultra-reactionary, ultra-montane Catholic in order to lead the campaign to persuade Rome to make the pope infallible.
The Masons were confident that their own personnel would occupy the papacy in the next century (a prophecy fulfilled beginning in 1963) and consequently the pontiff had to be guaranteed to exercise absolute sovereignty over every Catholic and every detail of the Church, spiritual, financial and disciplinary.
Yarvin reluctantly agrees with Maistre: conservative Catholics should have crushed the French Revolution. Ponder this double-mind datum: the revolution was masonic. Maistre was a Freemason.
The authentic roots of the French Revolution will be found in the education the chief revolutionaries (Robespierre, Saint-Just, Camille Desmoulins, and Marat) received as Catholic young people at institutions of higher learning under Jesuit influence, where they were taught, “Error has no rights.”
They embraced that tyrannical aphorism, linked it to disgust with the grinding poverty, aristocratic sadism, selfishness, and oppression directed at the working class, and started on the road to the overthrow of King Louis XVI, whose errors caused the monarch to have no rights, in their eyes.
The French Revolution was hijacked by Freemasonry, just as the Church was hijacked at the First Vatican Council. Among the Council’s victims were Lord Acton and the eminent ecclesiastical historian Ignaz Dollinger.
If you peruse Mr. Yarvin’s column you will see a good deal of fact and insight accompanying his Maistre maneuver. For example he states, “January 6 was a normal antigovernment demonstration in a normal country: instigated by provocateurs, never a genuine threat to the state, and handled with years of detention without trial and brutal prison sentences in isolation.”
True.
Moreover, he rightly exposes the corruption of the Federal Reserve Bank. Therefore he’s on the right track. He’s a guide to the future. Not likely.
Mixed with the preceding truths is a revelatory falsehood:
“…the Kochs, like most right-wing Americans, are fundamentally interested in liberty, not power—and live in the thrall of centuries of bogus political science which has taught them that government can be ‘limited’…”
“Bogus political science.”
Goodbye Magna Carta, John Lilburne, Thomas Jefferson and the Bill of Rights. To aspire to limit government is “bogus.”
The occult is always a dictatorship of insiders who lay claim to a special knowledge which outsiders are not fit to know.
Might-is-right and Survival of the fittest are their watchwords. They will even lay claim to a “Jesus” to give the appearance that He has anointed their enterprise.
They are supposedly superior due to their technical prowess in mathematics, engineering and allied sciences. Of art and poetry they have little or none. For them “everything lies veiled in numbers.” If your numeracy is wanting, your worth is too.
These self-appointed Masters of the Universe have a tiny link to Fuentes. He picks up the idol of one-man rule out of the dustbin of history and reinstates it. Man is not what the Bible says he is: a depraved creature whose only hope is the grace of Jesus Christ. The Cryptocracy embraces a Messiah-like man, an Adolf Hitler destined to have unlimited dominion over humanity, like the pharaohs of old, or Boniface VIII:
“Furthermore, we declare, we proclaim, we define that it is absolutely necessary for salvation that every human creature be subject to the Roman Pontiff.” — Unam Sanctam, Pope Boniface VIII, 1302.
On June 24, 1826 Thomas Jefferson expressed the sublimity of America’s radical freedom (for whites alone, unfortunately) — what he termed “the palpable truth, that the mass of mankind has not been born with saddles on their backs, nor a favored few booted and spurred, ready to ride them legitimately, by the grace of God.”
I am not surprised, Prof. Tim, by the illiteracy and ignorance of some of your students. This is the necessary state of “Gen Z” if they are to submit to the inevitability of the script presented to them as the future.
Good news: across America hundreds of “Classical Academies” have sprung to light, some of them Christian, others secular. In grades 1-12 they teach the indispensable books of our civilization: the Bible, Homer and Virgil, Augustine and Aquinas, Dante, Marlowe, Shakespeare, Milton, Bunyan, Alexander Pope, Dickens, Pound, T.S. Eliot and Hugh Kenner, and dozens more. The works in this canon, when deeply considered, represent training in critical thinking, what Edgar A. Poe termed, “ratiocination.”
When my youngest daughter finished eighth grade in one of those schools she could read Julius Caesar in Latin and was conversant with New Testament Greek.
After high school, fluency in ancient Hebrew should be gained in college. Among many ancient Hebrew-literate people, Pope Leo and his coffin-riding gang of co-conspirators cannot deceive the faithful into thinking the Bible advocates welcoming and harboring every illegal immigrant.
English translations of the Old Testament generally do not distinguish between the Bible’s two categories of stranger, a fact this writer explicated in Usury in Christendom.
In Hebrew in some passages, the word “stranger” is translated as ger, and as nokri in others.
Ger denotes a friendly stranger who seeks to aid the Israelites and submit to their laws and folkways. To these benevolent ger are all the supportive words for strangers in the Bible directed.
Nokri on the other hand are hostile strangers, enemy aliens; and Biblically no hospitality is to be extended to them other than basic life support such as temporary food and emergency medical care.
Illegal immigrant sex traffickers, fentanyl pushers and assorted banditti now gaining firm demographic purchase in America’s cities would be returned to their own lands, without a shred of bad conscience, by the Biblical patriarchs.
Young people have deserted the Gutenberg Universe for the Chaos Magic of online videos and visuals, in search of quickie enlightenment. No wonder it’s termed dark.
