The Wrong Kind of Civilians
Merrick Garland and the “Weaponization” of the Department of Justice
By Michael Hoffman
The United States government has a long history of attacking foreign heads of state as terrorist dictators who target civilians, while our government simultaneously engages in its own terrorism against the “wrong” civilians.
In March of 1945, almost six months before Hiroshima and Nagasaki, President Franklin D. Roosevelt, one of the heroes of “The Good War,” ordered General Curtis Lemay to implement LeMay's plan of attack on civilians in Japan. On March 9-10, American bombers were dispatched to intentionally create a firestorm that would wipe out sixteen square miles of the city of Tokyo, burning alive 100,000 Japanese children, women and men. Hundreds of thousands of napalm explosives were dropped from more than three hundred B-29 Superfortress bombers on the densely packed, mostly wooden city.
Testimony of First Lieutenant Richard Gross, 874th Bomb Squadron, 498th Bomb Group, U.S. Army Air Force: “I was a navigator. At the time, you just didn’t think about those things. We had a job to do and we did it. We were burning houses, but we didn’t think about the people.”
Testimony of Second Lieutenant Jim Marich, 869th Bomb Squadron, 497th Bomb Group, U.S. Army Air Force: “You could smell, I”m sorry to say, burning flesh in the airplane…We safely went on with the mission and went on with lesser-known missions. But by then, the Japanese fighter response was practically nil.”
Testimony of Technical Sergeant Ed Lawson, 882nd Bomb Squadron, 500th Bomb Group, U.S. Army Air Force: “My job was to stand by the open bomb-bay doors and throw chaff out — these long strips of aluminum foil to confuse Japanese radar. Can you imagine standing in front of an open bomb-bay door and smelling a city burn up? It was terrifying. At low altitude like that, I didn’t wear an oxygen mask. All I can say is that the smell was nauseating. I’ve never smelled anything like it since, and I don't want to…When we did the firebombings, we were killing civilians.”
Firebombs dropped by the United States in a total of sixty cities killed hundreds of thousands of Japanese people prior to the atomic bombs that annihilated Hiroshima and Nagasaki, and spread carcinogenic radioactive sickness among the population.
The Bombing of the Civilians of Tokyo in the History of Man
In the pages of the U.S. government’s own Strategic Bombing Survey we read:
“Probably more persons lost their lives by fire at Tokyo in a 6-hour period than any time in the history of man.”
In the of history man.
Yet most Americans don’t know of it and next month you’ll be hard-pressed to find even a paragraph of remembrance in your morning fish-wrapper.
Tucker Carlson on Fox News Nation interviewed “patriot” rock musician Ted Nugent, who offered this dim-witted analogy concerning the atomic bombing of Japan: “You Pearl Harbor us, we Nagasaki you.”
In Mr. Nugent’s cold-blooded formulation, an attack on an American military base in Hawaii fully justifies the incineration of a city of a quarter-million people in Japan. USA! USA! USA!
Americans can’t recall the unprecedented crime against humanity in Tokyo because the Japanese were the wrong kind of civilians. The mass murder our government perpetrated in that metropolis is not observed with any day set aside to recall it; it is not studied in special curricula in our schools or memorialized by museums or exhibits. Based on the rationale of victor's justice, the perpetrators were not prosecuted for war crimes; in fact they are celebrated as “The Greatest Generation.”
Japanese civilians are less than zero on the US government’s scale of moral concern. Every March as the anniversary drifts by, enveloped in a soft amnesia, the hounds of the government mouthpiece media are complicit in this willed forgetfulness, even as they fervently bark up every tree where squats a Putin, an Assad or a mullah. This is beyond cynical. It is macabre clowning.
The Bombing of the Civilians of Dresden
A few weeks before the conflagration in Tokyo, on Shrove Tuesday, 1945, in the magnificent German art city of Dresden, helpless Christian refugees fleeing the Red Army of the Stalinist USSR were packed within its city limits. Dresden’s native Lutheran and Catholic children, dressed in their festive Saxon folk costumes, were aboard trains taking them home after Mardi Gras parties at different points in the far-flung city. Still merry from the night’s festivities, they cavorted on the trains prior to Ash Wednesday, which in 1945 fell on February 14, and the solemnities that would be observed even in wartime, in memory of the passion and death of Jesus Christ. Unknown to the revelers, in the night sky Allied fighter planes caught sight of these undefended civilian trains and thoroughly machine-gunned the children inside, whose blood was soon pouring out of the wreckage.
Between February 13 and 14 upwards of 125,000 civilians were intentionally burned alive in Dresden by order of Churchill and Roosevelt. These men and their top military circle pulverized to ash the medieval cities of central Europe. A thousand years of national and religious wars had not managed to wreak the destruction which Churchill and Roosevelt directed against the cultural treasure houses of western civilization. They tossed a match into Dresden as casually as a drooling meth addict would torch an apartment building for revenge on the landlord who had evicted him.
Yet “conservative Christian” American university professors, and administrators in institutions of higher learning such as Michigan’s esteemed Right-wing Hillsdale College, which is the recipient of large donations from “Conservatives” who imagine they are helping to preserve western civilization, have hallowed Churchill into a paragon of decency, valor and western leadership. The canonization of this mass murdering vandal is such a grave a defect of vision as to be fatal —spiritually, culturally and politically.
If the powers that be in Washington, London and Brussels decide that Russia in 2023 requires fire-bombing, given sufficient pretext our “Conservatives” would do it all over again in the name of “civilization.” The blood of the innocent in Moscow and St. Petersburg would signify no more to the crusaders than the charred bodies of the civilians in the apocalyptic wreckage of Dresden and Tokyo.
The Bombing of the Civilians of Waco
Decades later, in 1993 agents of the Federal government, firing pyrotechnic ferret rounds which are designed to combust, burned to death 85 civilians at a church in Waco, Texas; among the dead were 25 children. FBI officials turned away fire trucks headed toward the scene. When the leader of the church, David Koresh, went out to meet the SWAT team of the ATF at his Branch Davidian church, he was unarmed. The ATF agents proceeded to open fire, killing Alaskan Malamute dogs in a pen. Hearing shots, members of the church returned fire. A lengthy gun battle left ten dead, including agents. By defending themselves, the despised “hillbillies” inside the church had signed their death warrant. As collective punishment they would all die. During the siege, Koresh stated in a telephone call to the FBI, “You guys could have arrested me anytime,” noting that he regularly jogged up and down the road in the front of the church unarmed. In the Wall Street Journal of January 28 (p. C7), editor Barton Swaim wrote that it is “very difficult” to pity Waco’s victims. Yes, sir, they were the wrong kind of civilians.
The Starvation of One-Half Million of the Children of Iraq
On May 12, 1996 Madeleine Albright, the U.S. Secretary of State, informed Leslie Stahl of CBS News that the deaths of 500,000 Iraqi children as the result of U.S. sanctions “was worth it.” These are the monstrous words of one of the revered representatives of 'Team Humanity.” Albright’s genocide-approval did not dent in the slightest degree her sterling reputation in the media or academia. Honorary degrees were showered upon her by the the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, University of Washington and Tufts University. In 1998 she was inducted into the National Women’s Hall of Fame, 500,000 dead Iraqi children not withstanding.
In 2003 President George W. Bush invaded the sovereign nation of Iraq. The Nuremberg War Crimes Tribunal ruled that aggressive war to be “the supreme international crime, differing only from other war crimes in that it contains within itself the accumulated evil of the whole.”
Key accomplices of the supreme international criminal such as former Vice-President Dick Cheney and former Secretary of State Condoleeza Rice, have lately been recipients of praise and laurels. Mr. Cheney was rapturously applauded in Congress on January 6, 2022 and Miss Rice is a regular guest on television news shows seeking “expert insight into Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.”
In February, 2022 on Fox News Sunday, host Harris Faulkner solicited Condoleeza’s views on Russia’s invasion of the sovereign nation of Ukraine. Rice, an architect of the US invasion of Iraq replied, “Well, it (Putin’s invasion) is certainly against every principle of international law and international order.”
Faulkner failed to challenge or rebut Rice over the hypocrisy of her comment, in that Condoleeza was notably one of the most vocal advocates of the Iraq war on the pretext that Saddam Hussein possessed weapons of mass destruction.
Garland and Wray Transform Pro-Life Family Man Mark Houck into John Dillinger
Last September Mark Houck, a pro-life father of seven, was arrested at his home following a federal indictment alleging he violated the 1994 Freedom of Access to (Abortion) Clinic Entrances Act, known as “FACE,” which prohibits “obstructive conduct intended to…interfere with the right to …obtain or provide” an abortion.
The Federal indictment stemmed from pushing incidents that took place on October 13, 2021, at an abortion clinic in Philadelphia, where Houck served as a sidewalk counselor asking women to reconsider their pending abortions. The indictment alleged that Houck shoved an abortion clinic escort named Bruce Love.
The prosecution argued that Houck pushed Mr. Love because Houck was trying to interfere with “reproductive health” services. Houck claimed he pushed Love because he was attempting to protect his 12-year-old son, Mark Jr. He alleged Love was saying crude things and harassing him.
Journalist William McGurn observes: “The dispute cut to the heart of intent. If Mr. Houck shoved Mr. Love to interfere with the provision of an abortion, he violated the FACE Act. But if Mr. Houck shoved Mr. Love because he was harassing his son, it was a street side altercation that never should have become a federal case.”
At the time of the arrest, Houck’s wife, Ryan-Marie Houck, told the Catholic News Agency that “a SWAT team came to my house with about 15 vehicles.” Mark Houck states, “The next thing I know I had 20-plus federal agents and state troopers banging on my door at 6:45 in the morning on September 23, Friday morning.”
I told them, “Okay, I’m going open the door. Stay calm. I have seven babies in here.’ As I opened the door, I could not believe the circus scene that I saw. There were at least 10 to 15 marked and unmarked units right in front of me. Surrounding the side of my house…cars lined all the way up to the street, long guns pointed at me, heavily armored vests, ballistic helmets, ballistic shields, a battering ram.”
There were five federal agents on his porch “with M-16s pointed at me and now my wife as she entered the opening of the door.”
Houck was shackled at the waist and feet and taken to the federal building.
William McGurn: “The FBI (decided) to arrest Mr. Houck as though he were John Dillinger…the FBI didn’t arrest this public enemy until September 23, 2022—almost a full year after the altercation (in front of the abortion e clinic)…The FBI came to Mr. Houck’s home as though he were a violent gangster…Was this show of force justified for a man who was never a threat or flight risk? On top of it all, one of Mr. Houck’s team of lawyers at the Thomas More Society, Matt Heffron, had emailed the assistant U.S. attorney in June saying Mr. Houck would accept a summons to surrender himself.”
That would been too easy, would have saved too much taxpayer money and would have spared the Houck family the maximum fear and embarrassment which Garland and Wray’s agents were seeking to inflict.
In February Democrat Party activist Alec Baldwin, charged with two counts of involuntary manslaughter in connection with the 2021 fatal shooting on the set of the movie “Rust,” along with the set’s armorer, Hannah Guiterrez Reed, were permitted to conveniently turn themselves over to authorities accompanied by their lawyers. This is often the case with felony prosecutions in Federal court involving defendants who do not offend the Democratic Party and Merrick Garland. Mark Houck and pro-life activists like him are, however, the wrong kind of defendants, hence, they suffer SWAT raids on their family homes and every other indignity that can be imposed under color of law.
Prior to his trial, the government offered Houck a deal: plead guilty and he would walk away with virtually no punishment other than “a slap on the wrist.”
His stalwart wife Ryan-Marie told him: “You’re not allowed home if you take that plea.”
God bless her!
If convicted, Mark faced 11 years in prison. Last January a jury returned a verdict of not guilty.
Wray, Garland and their boss Joe Biden, are sending the message that they are decent toward civilians unless you are the wrong kind of civilians in which case you will be treated to the full Gestapo treatment.
Good luck with that, Messers Garland and Wray. With mothers like Mrs. Houck around, who warn their husbands who face years in prison, “You’re not allowed home if you take that plea,” you will have to step up your repression if you think you’re going to intimidate folks seeking to protect “the least of His brethren” (Matthew 25:40) from violence in the womb.
These pro-Life people know that the crime of dehumanization of the unborn is not hermetically sealed from the crime of dehumanization of the born, in the streets of America. The two are inextricably connected—the missing piece in the puzzle of America’s increasing indices of violent crime.
Last October, eleven Republican US senators and twenty-nine members of Congress sent a letter to FBI Director Wray asking if the raid on Mr. Houck was an example of “weaponiz[ing] the power of federal law enforcement... against pro-life Americans based solely on their beliefs.”
If Republicans make this a partisan issue with their forthcoming “Church Committee”-style hearings on the very real weaponization of the starkly politicized FBI and Department of Justice, they will compound Right-wing delusion and further alienate persons of good will on the Left. It shouldn’t become a political football.
One way to prevent that is to acknowledge the “weaponization” that occurred under Reagan’s Attorney General Meese and Bush Sr.’s Attorney General Barr.
In the 1970s Idaho’s US Senator Frank Church pursued the CIA’s role in the assassination of President Kennedy with bipartisan zeal. A renowned conservationist who preserved Idaho’s River of No Return wilderness from development, he was respected on both sides of the aisle.
Hounding, jailing and murdering civilians is not the province of the Left alone. It is a hard-wired fixture of a Cryptocracy which holds deep state control no matter which party is in power in any given year, whether 1945 or 2023.
The Bombing of the MOVE Civilians in Philadelphia
In 1985 under the administration of Ronald Reagan and his Attorney General Edwin Meese III, Philadelphia police bombed a row house where members of the Black civil rights group MOVE were resident, killing six adults and five children aged seven to thirteen. More than sixty homes were destroyed, leaving more than 250 Philadelphians homeless. They were the wrong kind of civilians. None of the police perpetrators of this crime, from the commissioner on down, were jailed or criminally indicted by Reagan’s Department of Justice.
Killing a Mom and Her Son in Ruby Ridge
Under another Republican President, George H.W. Bush, in 1992 Federal agents murdered Vicki Weaver while she held her infant daughter in her arms, as well as killing her 14-year-old son Sam at their home in Ruby Ridge, Idaho. The raid was intended by Attorney General William Barr to send a message. Randy Weaver, the victims’ husband and father had done the unforgivable, he had declined becoming an FBI informant. To teach him and any others who refuse to snitch a severe lesson, the Feds found a pretext for U.S. Marshals to raid his home: Mr. Weaver had illegally sawed a shotgun barrel one inch shorter than the law allows. For the “one inch too short” crime they died, and Mr. Weaver went to jail. Had it not been for the pro bono services of a talented defense attorney, the legendary Gerry Spence, Weaver would have been imprisoned for years on trumped-up charges pursued by a Republican administration. (Alan W. Bock’s study of Ruby Ridge is the most accurate and unvarnished account to date).
Before Garland and Wray were born, over the course of seventy-eight years, highlighted by Dresden and Toyko, and later Waco, Baghdad, Philadelphia and Ruby Ridge, the lives of marginalized and demonized civilians have been held forfeit by the Overlords in Washington D.C. who fill the airways and Internet spaces showcasing the woes of their favored civilians (Ukrainians and Israelis) while propagating contempt for disfavored civilians — those they detest (Russians and Palestinians).
Republican Senators Tom Cotton and Lindsey Graham urge the military-industrial complex toward perpetual war for perpetual peace. Having lost and learned nothing from a two decade war in Afghanistan that ended in 2021, the U.S. government undertook another war the very next year for regime change in Russia, an objective that the mighty armies of Napoleon and Hitler could not achieve.
Mistrust and enmity are deliberately sown to divide impoverished blacks and rural whites and to find new public enemies — not among the bomb-throwers of Antifa or the arsonists of Jane’s Revenge—but pro-life fathers praying the rosary on sidewalks, on the collision course where America offers it children to Moloch and a middle finger to their Creator.

Michael, this is one of your better columns, and I say this having gained significant knowledge of both the Federal murders at Ruby Ridge and Waco., as well as both the fire bombing of Dresden and the premeditated killing of Germans AFTER the end of warfare in 1945. The US Federal government is a modern Golem.
Hi Michael. As usual, extremely well written and researched. I have 2 quick questions: Is there any veracity to the Q / white hats hypothesis-theory that they have already dismantled 70% of the toxic government leaders? Is Biden living in the DC White House? Please shed some light on these ideas. Thanks again. Geoffrey Hart
